Satchmi Vinyl Day 2015 + Mixtape Monday

I have never been a fan of gigs. Pretty much because I got used to the idea that gigs only include hard, metal music, with a lot of screaming and ear blasting guitar riffs. Don’t get me wrong, I like rock, sure, but I’m not really the type of person who’d like to go on the mosh pit and just go wild, body slamming everyone with my sweaty body. I like good music, of course, but I haven’t really discovered gigs yet that cater to the type of chill, laid back vibe that I want — most commonly associated to indie folk bands or hipsters as some may say — until I discovered a bunch of bands (mostly from So Far) based in Manila and followed them on social media, and boom, the rest was history: I am now a convert for gigs and concerts.

Anyway, earlier this month, I dragged Mark and my good friend, Cza, to the Satchmi Vinyl Day 2015 at Bonifacio Global City. I honestly went there knowing just a couple of bands who’s going to play, but eventually, we ended up having a great time together. I intentionally went there to take photos, and I kind of accomplished it during our stay. We also attempted to catch the Iron Throne at Fully Booked but miserably failed. Here are some of my photos featuring Ourselves the Elves, Tandem ’91, Jensen and the Flips, and BP Valenzuela. We didn’t stay late because we’ve been walking non-stop since earlier that day, but either way, we had a grand time.

So, aside from flooding you guys with my photos, I’m also posting (finally!) another mixtape. This has been brewing for sometime now, but as I’ve mentioned on my previous posts, I have been having issues with inspiration, so please bear with my late posts and bursts of creativity. LOL! Here’s a quick mixtape called “Brewed Well”, inspired by jams by Filipino artists that I’d totally love to listen while having a nice cup of coffee. Also influenced by Satchmi Vinyl Day vibes. Hope you guys like it!

  1. Aw, thanks Jamie! I just used my old but trusty Canon 1000D and a 70-300mm lens that I borrowed from a friend. It was such a challenge because the lens doesn't have an image stabilizer lol some of the shots are just taken by chance! Haha! πŸ™‚

  5. Jhanz! I miss you and I miss reading your blog. πŸ™ I'm so jealous that you have a lot of time and budget to go to these events. D: I can't travel that much and can't do what I want even when I have a lot of time in my hands. πŸ™ I think this is one of the cons of living in Laguna instead of somewhere in Manila where the events and other fun stuff usually are. πŸ™

I'm not familiar with the songs in the playlist but I'll definitely check all of them out. Thank you so much for sharing us these songs, by the way. πŸ™‚ xx

  7. Oooh, thank you so much for the mixtape Jhanz! I'm way behind with Filipino music and now I'm able to discover new artists again! Awesome! This event looks like fun and chill, I'm not a big fan of mosh pits too, even though I like rock music πŸ™‚

  13. I'm not a fan of gigs, too, but I went to one recently and I definitely loved it. I'm mostly a fan of indie groups playing around in Cebu, so I went to catch them all in a gig last month. I think Slow Hello actually played but I sadly missed them πŸ™ I'm saving up your playlist because I want to explore more of the bands you listed. Such a great choice! Also, your shots are fantastic, ate! Haha definitely enjoyed looking at them. πŸ™‚

  15. I'm not a fan of gigs as well and we have the same thought of it. Haha. But because I have musically inclined friends who are band members as well I always support them whenever they have gigs. It's nice to see them play though. πŸ™‚ Anyway, this is a great post and i love these songs you shared!

    Have a great day!

  17. I LOVE going to gigs!! But I think you already know that.. haha my problem is that I don't have much money these days to get a ticket to a show of my choice.

Once in a while I go to random shows too.. those types of shows that you get dragged to by your friends and most of the time I become a fan of the performers whose music I just witnessed being played live after their set. It's also a good way to gauge if they're really that good. If they sound good live, minus those post-processing with their music and voices, they're good in my book! I love it when they're able to do an on the spot change of version of their songs too.

Neat photos! I read that you used a telephoto somewhere in the comments. I struggle w/ the 55-250mm sometimes but you did a good job with these photos!
